Why study with me?

Experience

I’ve been teaching private voice professionally for the past six years. Though my formal training is in classical singing, I am proficient in teaching and performing several different genres, including Jazz, Musical Theater, Pop, and Latin-American Folk.

While studying at the New England Conservatory, I worked closely with Dr. Ian Howell, writing and conducting research on the neurological and physical connections that artists hone to improve their singing and performing. As a neurodivergent singer myself, I prioritize learning how to teach and adapt to different learning styles. As an active performer and voice student, I continue to bring current insights from the industry into my vocal studio to adequately prepare students who want to perform professionally.

My students have gone on to perform mainstage roles with regional and community theater companies, win vocal competitions, and receive major scholarships to attend undergraduate programs, with former students studying in prestigious programs such as The University of Hartford’s Hartt School, and The Long Island University’s School of Theater.

Teaching Philosophy

My number one priority as an educator is to help my students achieve the freedom to fully express themselves as both artists and human beings, whether that be through a career in the arts, or as a hobby. My studio is a safe space for students to bring in the music they love most, where they’ll be encouraged to make their own musical choices and artistic decisions. This environment allows us to more easily identify any technical obstacles.

I value each individual student’s artistic identity and style, and my focus as their instructor is to guide them along the way with healthy singing technique, mutual collaboration, and above all, a love and appreciation for music.

    Christin, 49

  • "Juan quickly assisted me in developing a music repertoire.  He had me confidently prepared to sing in an adult recital four months into lessons.  Juan selected music that would aid in the development of my voice and that was music I deeply enjoyed."

    Lisa, adult student
